We now know why Ovechkin wanted that car so badly.

Remember Alex Ovechkin going so far as to make a hand written sign in an effort to be the last pick in the NHL draft? Well the reason he was doing it was because he wanted to win the car that goes to the last man picked in said draft, unfortunately Ovechkin's dreams were crushed, he was picked 3rd from last. However according to a story from the Washington Post, once Honda discovered why Ovechkin wanted the car, they decided to give him one anyways. Turns out Ovechkin's plan was to give the car to the Washington Ice Dogs. The Ice Dogs are a team for children with developmental disabilities, and one of their players, Ann, has a special connection with Alex. Ann and Alex once went on a date after she asked him out for sushi. Image courtesy NHL. So the team did end up getting their car, and Ovechkin couldn't be happier. “We are incredibly grateful to Alex,” said Mike Hickey, president of ASHA. “Our motto is ‘where every player is a star.’ Alex is a truly a star, and through his generosity, he’s giving a lot of children a chance to shine."
