Even under the best of circumstances the Edmonton Oilers would likely be pretty hot under the collar over this one but given the events that have transpired over the past few days, as well as the fact that this season has been a real struggle for the Oilers, I would imagine that the Oilers are furious right about now.
On Saturday night the Edmonton Oilers faced off against the Anaheim Ducks in the late game and much to my surprise the Oilers actually came out and delivered a solid performance in front of their home town crowd at Rogers Place. Not only have the Oilers not performed well at home as of late but they were also without superstar forward Connor McDavid who was hit with a controversial 2 game suspension, a suspension that the Oilers organization was clearly not pleased about.
Well that displeasure will likely be multiplied several times over if the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety does not take measures to address the actions of one Corey Perry in the final seconds of Saturday night's contest between the Ducks and the Oilers. In spite of the Oilers not having their best player the lifeless Ducks came out and laid an egg on Saturday succumbing to what has been one of the most dysfunctional teams in the league this season, and it was obvious that Perry wasn't too happy about that in the third period.
With only seconds left to go on the game clock a frustrated Perry, who mind you has only played in less than a dozen games this entire season, took some serious liberties with Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse. The gritty Nurse was engaged in a battle for the puck along the boards when he lost his balance and fell to the ice on his knees. It was while he was in that defenseless position that Perry decided he would deliver a very dirty looking forearm shiver to the head of Nurse, knocking him down to the ice on his back.
Unsurprisingly Nurse was extremely unhappy with the blow and immediately went after Perry who responded like a complete coward. In what was one of the more chicken sh** moves of the season this far Perry merely turtled up and tried to run away after his cheap shot, wanting no part of Nurse.
