It was one of the most shocking moments of the night and it didn’t take long for controversy to follow.

Pierre-Luc Dubois was handed a match penalty and ejected after a dangerous sequence involving Robert Thomas during the game between the Washington Capitals and St. Louis Blues on Tuesday.

The play unfolded during a tie-up, but quickly escalated. Dubois appeared to wrestle Thomas to the ice, bringing him down hard in a motion that had fans comparing it to a WWE-style bodyslam. On replay, it looked even worse: Thomas’ face appeared to hit the ice as he went down, leaving him slow to get up before heading to the dressing room.

Now, all eyes are on the NHL’s next move.
