Possible suspension for Canadiens defenseman coming?
z

The Montreal/Toronto rivalry is one of the greatest in the league. The games are intense and physical and sometimes there are some dirty plays that take place.

Tonight that was the case. With barely any time remaining on the clock, Habs defenseman Alexei Emelin cross checked Leafs forward James van Riemsdyk from behind into the boards. van Riemsdyk was only a few feet from the boards when Emelin pushed him in the lower back and sent him crashing face first into the boards. It was a dangerous play and Emelin was given a major for cross checking.

It was a chippy game at times, with Matt Martin hitting Nathan Beaulieu from side/behind earlier in the game. Martin was given a penalty on the play and Beaulieu got up and dropped the gloves with Martin, clearly not being happy with the hit he received.

It is unknown if there will be a suspension handed down, but often when a major is given late in a game and the type of hit it was will definitely have the NHL take a look at the play.
