You truly don’t see this every day, but when you do, it’s hard not to laugh. On Wednesday night against the New York Islanders, the New York Rangers somehow managed to take three penalties on the very same shift. Not over the course of a period. In one single shift. One chaotic sequence.

To be fair, every call was warranted. It’s just the sheer timing of it all that makes the moment so absurd.

Sam Carrick was whistled for a minor penalty for tripping Kyle MacLean, then immediately took another minor for cross-checking Mathew Barzal. As if that wasn’t enough, Matt Rempe piled on by getting called for boarding Marc Gatcomb, leaving the Rangers shorthanded in spectacular fashion.

Naturally, the clip made the rounds online almost instantly.

Watch it below:

The night was already off to a rough start for the Rangers, who are currently without Artemi Panarin. The star forward was pulled from the lineup for roster management, or more accurately, asset protection, purposes. Sources indicate Panarin is unlikely to suit up in any games leading up to the Olympics as the team plays it safe amid ongoing trade speculation.

Between the missing superstar and a three-penalty shift, Wednesday night quickly turned into one of those games Rangers fans would probably like to forget, while everyone else enjoys the chaos.
