Report: 14 year NHL veteran steps away from the game for good.

A San Jose Sharks legend and 14 year NHL veteran stepped away from the game for good today. Goaltender Evgeni Nabokov announced his retirement Wednesday at a press conference at SAP Center in San Jose. Selected by the San Jose Sharks in the ninth round (No. 219) of the 1994 NHL Draft, Nabokov began this season with the Tampa Bay Lightning before he was traded to the Sharks on Monday for future considerations. Nabokov, 39, played 14 seasons in the League, including his first 10 in San Jose, where he won 293 games. He won the Calder Memorial Trophy as the League's top rookie after winning 32 games in 2000-01, and led the League with 46 victories in 2007-08, at the time the second-most wins by a goalie in a single season. Nabokov holds Sharks records in wins (293), games played (563), saves (13,463), save percentage (.912) and shutouts (50), and won 338 games with the Sharks, New York Islanders and Lightning.
