The Colorado Avalanche may have finally beaten the Minnesota Wild on Sunday, but the win may have come at huge cost.
The Colorado Avalanche were forced to pull starting goaltender Semyon Varlamov late in the third period. Varlamov took a hard shot near collarbone earlier in the game and was shaken up.
He was replaced by Reto Berra.
Reports indicate that the injury could very well be a broken collarbone for the Russian netminder. If you remember correctly it was a broken collarbone that is forcing Patrick Kane to miss 12 weeks of action. Depending on the severity, it could be season ending.
The loss of your no.1 goaltender at this juncture in the season can not be understated. Varlamov was 21-17-7 with a 2.59 goals-against average entering Sunday's game.
