There’s no doubt that Jamie Benn is a talented player. He’s gotten a ton of praise since capturing the Art Ross Trophy on the final night of the regular season and earned a nomination for the Ted Lindsay Award all while plying on a badly hurt hip. He’s also never been one to back down from a fight. It seems people can’t say enough about good things the Dallas Stars captain. He has accomplished an awful lot. Benn has won an Olympic gold and Art Ross, became team captain, helped Dallas snap a five-year playoff drought and apparently is scaring the crap out of tough guys the league over. Dallas Stars GM Jim Nill said, per the Dallas Morning-News: “There’s nobody that wants to fight Jamie Benn,” “I’ve seen it in so many buildings.” “The game gets a little bit rough, he kind of looks at somebody and the fire is put out.” “It’s amazing what he’s done just in the two years that I’ve been there,” Nill explained. “And what is he — 25? He’s not even in his prime yet. “And he’s laying in bed right now with two hip surgeries. He played the whole year injured. People don’t understand that. It’s an amazing what he’s done. The encouraging part is where he’s headed. You know he’s going to get even better.” While Benn, 25, is tough, it’s fair to say there’s a few Detroit Red Wings that would like a piece of the 6-foot-2, 210 pound forward, especially after a dirty sucker punch to the back of the head left Red Wings captain Henrik Zetterberg out with a bad concussion earlier this season. Not to mention Joe Thornton and Francois Beauchemin who have all dropped the gloves with Benn in the past. Hopefully the Stars GM didn't just put a target on one of his biggest star's back come next season.
