The NHL has been cracking down hard on embellishment in an attempt to eliminate these plays from the game completely. Today they announced another player has been publicly ousted and fined for diving. New York Islanders forward Cal Clutterbuck has become the fourth player to be fined this season for diving. The NHL announced he has been fined the minimum $2,000 for the offence under NHL Rule 64 (Diving/Embellishment). From the league: Clutterbuck was issued a Warning following an incident flagged by NHL Hockey Operations during NHL Game No. 397 against the St. Louis Blues on Dec. 6. His second Citation, which triggered the $2,000 fine, was issued for an incident during NHL Game No. 676 against the Philadelphia Flyers on Jan. 19. Flyers forward Jakub Voracek received a minor penalty for hooking on the play, at 19:04 of the second period. The Islanders scored on the ensuing power play. We can now add Clutterbuck's name to that of Detroit’s Gustav Nyquist, Florida’s Vincent Trochek and Nashville’s James Neal of players who have been fined for diving under the new rules. The NHL has done a good job of catching these players in the act as all four incidents were clearly dives. Here is the Clutterbuck incident: [iframe id=""]
