Two former NHL players are calling out Ridly Greig.
The Ottawa Senators were swept in their opening round Stanley Cup playoff series at the hands of the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday, but not before one member of the Senators made quite the negative impression on at least some of those who tuned in to today's Game 4.
I am of course speaking of Senators forward Ridly Greig, a player that has rapidly built a reputation for excelling at getting under the skin of his opponents. On Saturday however, Grieg crossed a line that appeared to leave a bad taste in the mouths of several former National Hockey League players when he delivered a blatant sucker punch to Hurricanes defenseman Sean Walker.
The issue here stems from the fact that Walker was being held by Greig's teammate Warren Foegele at the time, leaving Walker completely unable to protect himself from Greig's sucker punch. Former NHL goaltender Kelly Hrudey did not hold back when speaking of Greig's actions in Game 4.
"This is gutless and disgusting," said Hrudey of Greig's sucker punch on the Sportsnet broadcast.
Hrudey also cheered on Walker's retribution later in the game, retribution that came in the form of a dangerous hit.
Hrudey wasn't the only former NHLer to take issue however, with Paul Bissonnette calling for Greig to face a hefty suspension.
"That's a 5 gamer in my opinion," said Biz on the TNT broadcast. "When Foegele's got Walker in a headlock like that, for you to give a flat out uppercut like that is absolute B.S."
Biz would even go so far as to suggest that this would be the type of situation that would have him waiting for the opposing player after the game.
Should Grieg face the wrath of NHL player safety for his actions in Game 4? Let me know what you think of this one in the comments.
