Multiple reports are suggesting, to no one's surprise, that the Kings are looking to get rid of Mike Richards and his huge contract. It was clear this would be an issue down the road, but the Slava Voynov situation, and the havoc it wreaked on the Kings salary cap situation seems to have made the situation more urgent. The Fourth Period has reported that Kings General Manager Dean Lombardi has had preliminary discussions with almost every team in the NHL regarding the possibility of trading Richards. Obviously the biggest concern for teams is Richards $5.75 million dollar cap hit, per year, for 7 very long years. Surprisingly teams are still interested in acquiring the veteran forward, who despite his faults is a proven winner. the most likely destinations for Richards would be teams with cap space looking to make a playoff run this season. We expect Richards to stay in L.A. until at least the trade deadline.
