The Bruins are in desperate need of a top six forward, and are looking in the direction of Buffalo Sabres rugged forward Chris Stewart. There is no doubt that the winger would be an excellent addition to the bruins, as he matches the classic Bruins style of play. Stewart, who is in the last year of his contract, was first mentioned as a potential Boston target in the CSNNE.com hockey notes right after the season started. Sabres GM Tim Murray has been stockpiling picks and prospects since taking over last January. The asking price for Stewart which, reportedly, is two top prospects, or two prime draft picks, or some combination of both. The Bruins hold Philadelphia's second-round pick, which it acquired from the Islanders in the Johnny Boychuk deal. It seems to be this that is attracting the attention of Murray, who is bent on rebuilding the Sabres from the ground up. But Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli was smart to walk away. The B's have stabilized their front line over the last handful of games. They'll undoubtedly be challenged over the next four to six weeks with Zdeno Chara out of the lineup, but they seem to have found combinations that are beginning to work. Overpaying for rental players like Stewart is how bad trades end up happening in this league. The Bruins need to take a pass on this one and find a more permanent solution to their woes on the wing.
