Two NHL heavyweights step into the ring but only one leaves uninjured.
If you're a fan of seeing two extremely tough competitors going toe to toe on the ice you were given a special treat this week during a clash between the San Jose Sharks and New York Rangers.
On Thursday, fans were treated to one hell of a scrap between Sharks veteran enforcer Ryan Reaves and Rangers enforcer Matt Rempe, with Reaves seemingly getting the better of his younger and less experienced opponent.
It was a scrap that many fans had been eagerly anticipating and they didn't have to wait long, with both men wasting little time and getting right down to business in the game's very first period. Only a little over 5 minutes had expired off the game clock when these two titans decided to throw blows, and throw blows they did.
Both men landed their shots during the exchange but there were a few truly powerful looking blows from Reaves that appeared to stumble Rempe at different points during the exchange. That certainly made it look, at least from my perspective, like Reaves walked away from this one the winner.
Here is the replay:
Reaves landing the better shots was all but confirmed a short while later when the Rangers announced that Rempe had been injured during the exchange and would remain out for the rest of the game due to an upper body injury.
I am only speculating but I would assume that one of those shots caught Rempe pretty good, forcing him to the sidelines for the time being.
