The NHL's undisputed HW champion puts down the veteran enforcer.
Every once in a while we are treated to a memorable fight in the National Hockey League and fortunately for us this was most definitely one of those weeks.
We have to go all the way back to Tuesday for this past week's Scrap of the Week but it was an absolute barn burner with two of the biggest names involved as far as NHL enforcers are concerned. This one was between the NHL's reigning and undisputed heavyweight champion Mathieu Olivier of the Columbus Blue Jackets and veteran NHL enforcer Ryan Reaves of the San Jose Sharks.
Olivier is inarguably the scariest man in the NHL today and has destroyed anyone willing to drop the gloves with him and unfortunately for the very experience Reaves he was no exception. Both men would land heavy shots in the early going but the sharp straight punches from Olivier quickly took their toll and it was clear that Olivier was once again doing what he does best.
To the shock of many, he would put Reaves down on the ice with a series of devastating blows to the veteran enforcer.
Reaves himself admitted after the fight that Olivier had done what no other man had done before.
"He's one of the toughest in the league," admitted Reaves post-game. "It's the first time I've been caught and knocked down like that. When you go up against a guy like that and I'm 38, gettin a little older, eventually I was gonna get caught and today was the day."
Much to his credit Reaves says he's looking forward towards his chance at revenge.
"We'll get him next time," said Reaves.
