Are you starting to believe in the comeback? (Video)

He has been one of the most talked about, most criticized, most hated players on the Detroit Red Wings that I can remember for some time. I'm of course referring to Stephen Weiss, the former Florida Panther who signed a 5 year $24.5 million dollar deal with the Detroit Red Wings, and has frankly failed to live up to expectations during his tenure. Weiss has been plagued by injuries since joining the Wings has be a colossal disappointment on those rare occasions when he has found his way onto the ice. Last season Weiss played 26 games with the club, managing just 4 points and a -4 over that stretch. Recently Weiss admitted that he tried to push his body too hard, that he wanted so badly to perform for his new team that he played through injury and it cost him.

"It’s been a tough go here,” he said. “It’s not what I envisioned when I came here two summers ago. But you can’t control these types of things, other than just wanting to stick it out with the injury last year and not wanting to come out of the lineup, I probably screwed myself over a little bit, and paid the price for it. But hopefully this snowballs in my direction.”

Those were Weiss comments after a two goal performance that helped propel the Red Wings past the Senators in a 4-3 victory. Then almost as if trying to prove to all his doubters that it wasn't just a fluke Weiss puts up two more points against the Philadelphia Flyers last night. This time opening the scoring with a goal in the first period for the Wings, then adding a helper on Datsyuk's second goal of the night. It seems like quite a comeback for Weiss who now has 3 goals and an assists over his last two NHL games, the question is, are Red Wings fans ready to believe in Stephen Weiss?
