Scrap ends with one player injured and another thrown out of the game.
A spirited scrap in the American Hockey League on Friday night went too far, and now one player is left to recover from his injuries while another is potentially facing supplemental discipline.
During a game between the Abbotsford Canucks and Laval Rocket, the AHL affiliate teams of the National Hockey League's Vancouver Canucks and Montreal Canadiens, we saw a scrap between Chase Stillman of the Abbotsford Canucks, son of former NHL first round pick Cory Stillman, and Josiah Didier of the Laval Rocket.
The scrap would occur during the game's second period and it would end in terrifying fashion after Didier was thrown to the ice, seemingly hitting his unprotected head on the ice as he went down. Didier went down hard which made the situation bad enough, but making matters worse was that Stillman followed that up with a nasty looking shot after Didier was already clearly out of it.
Stillman immediately received a match penalty for his infraction while Didier would remain on the ice for several moments, with the stretcher even being brought out to help him off the ice. Thankfully Didier was able to get up and skate off the ice under his own power, but reports indicate that his head was heavily bandaged up following the game.
Here's how the injury occurred, you can see the panic from his teammates as they immediately signal to the bench that Didier is in need of assistance.
