A brutal mistake from Jeremy Swayman on the biggest stage of them all.

Oh boy this one is going to be talked about for a very long time if this game goes the wrong way for the United States of America.

On Saturday, Team USA faced off against the nation of Denmark at the Winter Olympic Games in a game that many believed heavily favored Team USA. Denmark however came out with something to prove in this one and even managed to take an early lead before the United States eventually tied things up again. It was after Team USA had tied things up however that disaster would strike for Boston Bruins goaltender Jeremy Swayman.

In what has to be one of the worst goals in Olympic history, Denmark's Nicholas B. Jensen of the Fischtown Pinguins of the Deutsche Eishockey Liga would fire what appeared to be a harmless shot from center ice towards the American net. That shot should have resulted in a moment that no one remembered but instead it is now likely to be one that is discussed for years into the future.

That harmless shot would float down the ice and eventually make its way to Team USA goaltender Jeremy Swayman, with Swayman lifting his glove to catch it and missing the puck entirely. It was an incredibly embarrassing moment for Swayman and one that unfortunately has already been replayed thousands, if not millions, of times around the world.

There was some speculation on the broadcast that the color of the boards in the area may have hampered Swayman's ability to see the puck, but with Denmark taking a 2-1 lead on this goal there may not be many who will be willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Here is a look at the replay:

Here is a look at the puck blending in very well with the color of the boards, something that may get you to give Swayman a little more leeway given just how difficult it is to see the puck even in a still photo.

Let me know your thoughts on this one in the comments.
