The goalie who became famous for robbing banks!

Earlier this year former NHLer Patrick Cote was arrested and sentenced to 30 months in prison for his involvement in two robberies in the Montreal area. However Cote is not the most famous hockey player turned back robber, here's the story of Hungarian legend Attila Ambrus. Ambrus was born into poverty in Romania, and after suffering through an abusive childhood he decided to take his chances elsewhere, and escaped the communist Romania via train to start a new life in Hungry. However he quickly realized that life wasn't gonna be much better in Hungry, and instead turned to a life of crime. The Iron Curtain had just fallen, the government was incredibly corrupt, so there wasn't much opportunity for an honest man to make a life, so began the life of Atilla Ambrus as a bank robber. Ambrus robbed an estimated 27 Budapest banks and post offices during his time as a thief, and in many cases people viewed him more as a hero than a villain. The common man who was the victim of the aforementioned corruption understood Ambrus, and his non violent robberies turned him into a bit of a Robin Hood, despite the fact he didn't share his wealth. Ironically Ambrus never robbed anyone during his professional hockey career. In fact Ambrus, a career back up,  once allowed 88 goals over the span of 5 games, one of those games saw him allow a whopping 23 goals against. Ambrus was so bad in fact he ended up as the team's Zamboni operator. In the end Ambrus will be remembered not for his play on the ice, but for his daring robbers that earned him the name of the "Whiskey Robber."
