The Detroit Red Wing's newest player came with a special message for his new captain, from his former captain. As most of you probably know, the Red Wings acquired Erik Cole from the Dallas Stars on Sunday, in the hopes of bolstering their playoff depth, and it was the Stars' captain Jamie Benn who was responsible for injuring Henrik Zetterberg. According to Cole, Benn asked him to apologize to Zetterberg on his behalf for the injury Zetterberg suffered after Benn struck him repeatedly to the head.
“[Benn] sent me here with an apology,” said Cole after the Tuesday morning skate. “I told [Zetterberg] this morning.”
For his part Zetterberg while not necessarily forgiving Benn, said that he didn't think it was the worst incident in the world.
“I don’t think it was that bad,” he explained. “We had a battle on the faceoff and I think both me and him have done worse things than that on the ice.”
Pretty big of Zetterberg given how much difficulty the injury has caused him over the past few weeks. For those of you who missed the original incident you can see it here.
