It was January 11, 1976, and the Flyers were set to face off against the famous Red Army team of the USSR. With the Flyers looking in complete control of the game, a body check delivered by the Flyers Ed Van Impe sparked a controversy and the Soviets promptly left the ice. The Soviets were upset a penalty had not been called on the hit. Flyers' Chairman Ed Snider told the Soviets to return to the ice and finish the game, which was being broadcast to an international audience, or the Soviet Hockey Federation would not get paid the fee to which they were entitled. They eventually complied and lost 4-1. Here is the entire incident. That's Flyers hockey everybody.
