Rivalry took a wild turn in Toronto when one unlucky fan became part of the action

You’ve got to respect the bravery… but this might be pushing it.

During a game between the Maple Leafs and the New York Islanders in Toronto, one fan decided to show up in full Montreal Canadiens gear... And somehow, the hockey gods had a sense of humor.

In a moment that quickly made the rounds online, the fan was struck by a puck during play, turning a regular night at the rink into something he definitely won’t forget anytime soon.

The poor fan ended up with a pretty nasty-looking injury, with his eye appearing swollen shut after the impact.

It’s the kind of moment that’s equal parts shocking and, in a strange way, almost symbolic given the long-standing rivalry between Montreal and Toronto.

Of course, jokes aside, it’s a tough break for the fan, who was just there to enjoy the game, albeit in enemy colors. Wearing a Canadiens jersey in Toronto already takes guts… but leaving with a puck to the face? That’s next level.

All things considered, here’s hoping he’s doing okay and makes a quick recovery. Because rivalry or not, no one signs up for that when they head to a hockey game.
