One young man didn't want to wait until the new year for his first National Hockey League goal.

On Friday night 26-year-old Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Michal Kempny registered the first goal of his NHL career after he drove home a drop pass from his captain Jonathan Toews beating Carolina Hurricanes veteran goaltender Cam Ward.

The goal comes in the 25th game of Kempny's career and it came at a greatr time, early in the first period to give his Blackhawks a 1-0 lead to work with.
