Tom Wilson delivers one of his biggest hits of the season
Washington Capitals enforcer Tom Wilson is once again at the center of controversy, and once again it comes off the back of a devastating hit.
On Saturday night, Wilson and the Capitals faced off against the Carolina Hurricanes and it would be during the game's third and final period that Wilson would draw the ire of the Hurricanes. With a little over 6 minutes left on the game clock, Hurricanes forward Logan Stankoven came flying around the back of the net only to be met with a vicious body check from Wilson.
Here is a look at the video replay:
The Hurricanes were furious about the hit, feeling that Wilson had caught Stankoven up high, but there was perhaps no one more furious than Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind'Amour. Brind'Amour could be seen losing his mind on the bench, clearly feeling that Wilson should have been punished for the hit.
Stankoven was looking worse for wear when he got back to the Hurricanes bench with his head clearly busted open and a long crimson streak running down the side of his face. There is some question on whether or not that injury came from the Wilson hit, as Stankoven was also involved in a second collision with Capitals forward Aliaksei Protas on the way back to the bench.
