Multiple sources including the Edmonton Journal are reporting that the Oilers and Blues are in very serious discussions and that multiple players could be on the move. It's no secret Edmonton is desperately looking to improve at center, and now it appears the Oilers are very interested in Blues Centre Patrik Berglund. It makes sense for the Blues to part with Berglund, who is currently playing left wing with the team because of their incredible depth at the position. The Blues have  Paul Stastny, David Backes and Jori Lehtera at center, parting with Berglund wouldn't be too big of a blow, the question becomes what are the Oilers willing to give up. Jordan Eberle is the name St. Louis wants in return, again a move that makes a ton of sense, they could easily fit Eberle in to the spot left available by Berglund. It's important to note that no one is suggesting that Berglund will be traded for Eberle in a one for one deal, Eberle has shown far more potential and production than Berglund, and has 4 years left on his deal compared to just two for Berglund. Oilers are also looking to ship David Perron out of town after some very negative  comments he made following a loss angered members of the Oilers management. While many teams are said to have made inquiries the most serious talks have been between the Oilers and The Montreal Canadians who are rumored to be interested in moving David Desharnais. It was reported by Daren Dreger earlier this week that Craig MacTavish has made it clear to other GMs that no player is "off limits". And based on the comments from recent hockey insiders it seems more and more clear that MacTavish wasn't bluffing. From TSN's Bob McKenzie:
“I think they have to now. It’s absolutely essential that – whether it’s a  Jordan Eberle or Nail Yakupov or somebody else – Justin Schultz – whatever. Some of those bodies need to be moved and parlayed into different pieces that address the specific weaknesses of the team as it exists.”
From HNIC's Elliotte Friedman:
“Behind the scenes, I think the Oilers were working a lot of stuff. I think – when I was on Saturday night, I had heard their key guys were not available. I don’t know if that’s true anymore. I think the Oilers might have thrown everybody on the table. Now, I think if we’re talking somebody like a Taylor Hall, the price is massive. I really do think that.
It would have been almost unthinkable to trade a piece like Taylor Hall at the start of the year, but it appears that MacTavish is willing to move anyone and everyone for the right price. It's not just the Blues and Canadians knocking at the Oilers door either, teams rumored to be in the mix and the players they are willing to move include: Toronto Maple Leafs: Nazim Kadri, Joffrey Lupul Philadelphia Flyers: Brayden Coburn, Brayden Schenn Detroit Red Wings: Stephen Weiss, Johan Franzen, Jakub Kindl, Daniel Cleary Those are just the teams we have heard rumors about, there are likely many more teams involved which is surprising considering the rumors surrounding the salary cap next season. However the prospect of acquiring some of the Oilers young talent is extremely enticing to many teams. Who would you be willing to give up? Who would you want to give up in exchange. Let us know what you would do if you were GM for a day in the comments below.
