Torey Krug leaves the game after a big hit from Tom Wilson.

Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson has claimed himself another victim.

On Monday night during the final day of games before the National Hockey League's holiday break the Washington Capitals faced off against the Boston Bruins in what turned out to be a pretty embarrassing game for the Capitals. In spite of the fact that the Bruins were without captain Zdeno Chara, the veteran defenseman underwhent a jaw procedure that forced him out of the game, the Bruins thoroughly dominated the Capitals with 5 consecutive goals in the opening two periods before the Capitals finally responded with one of their own.

Although it was a bad night for the Capitals they did have some highlights during the game, including one particularly impactful hit on the part of Washington Capitals bruiser Tom Wilson. During the game's second period Wilson caught Boston Bruins defenseman Torey Krug unawares and leveled him with a massive hit along the boards, one that sent Krug crashing awkwardly into those very same boards. It is unclear if it was the impact with Wilson that left Krug banged up or of it was his collision with the boards but the Bruins blue liner was forced out of the contest as a result of that hit. As I stated earlier the Bruins were already without Chara on their blue line so the loss of Krug represented a significant blow.

The Bruins have not released any official medical update on the status of Krug at this time so it is still possible that he could return to tonight's game. That being said though there has been no sight of him since the Wilson hit and that could be an indication that he will not make his return to tonight's game.
