Veteran National Hockey League head coach John Tortorella has gotten considerably better at regulating his temper since joining the ranks of the NHL but every once in a while it can still get the better of him.

On Saturday night Tortorella and his Columbus Blue Jackets found themselves in the kind of situation that you would normally expect to see put a smile on the face of a head coach. The Blue Jackets were thoroughly dominating the Carolina Hurricanes through roughly 35 minutes of play, with the Jackets taking a commanding 4  -1 lead over the Hurricanes, but in spite of that the always savvy Tortorella was still trying to sneak in every little advantage he possibly could in order to maximize his team's chances of winning.

With just a little over 5 minutes remaining in the contest's second period of play, the Blue Jackets were called for an icing that forced Tortorella's tired soldiers to remain on the ice for at least an extra puck drop, and put the Jackets on the back foot in their own zone. So Tortorella did something that we have seen crafty veteran coaches do time and time again during tough icing calls, he appeared to stall for time. Now to be fair there may have been a legitimate reason for the Blue Jackets stalling, we will never truly know, but it was obvious that the National Hockey League's officials on the ice were having absolutely none of it.

They quickly shut down the stalling tactics from the Blue Jackets by skating over to the Columbus bench and quickly awarding the team with a two minute minor penalty for a delay of game. Unsurprisingly the already exhausted Blue Jackets on the ice were none too pleased with the call and the Blue Jackets on the bench were not exactly thrilled about it either. That being said though it was head coach John Tortorella who clearly took the call the worst and he began unloading on the NHL's officiating crew almost immediately after the call was made.

Tortorella went off on a rant that eventually led to a commercial break during the live broadcast, but cameras kept rolling after the game went to commercial and Tortorella could be seen still going off on the officials long after he likely expected cameras to have turned away from the incident.
