Two teams have announced that they have suffered some major losses following the All-Star break. First the New York Islanders have announced the loss of star player Kyle Opsoko. Opsoko has quietly been one of the very best playersi n the NHL this season, recording an impressive 44 points in 46 games with the Islanders, his loss may directly impact the recent surge the Isles have had. The Islanders have announced that Opsoko will miss 6 to 8 weeks with an upper body injury, a major blow to the team. We now know why Dion Phaneuf missed today's practice, he will miss time following the All-Star break with an injury. According to multiple reports Phaneuf is out day to day with what the Leafs are calling an upper-body injury. However a more recent report from TSN's Darren Dreger suggest that the injury is to Pahenuf's hand, an injury that he's not only been dealing with some time but one that he aggravated first in his fight with Eric Staal of the Hurricanes, and then again during the Battle of Ontario. As mentioned earlier there is no official word yet on how long Phaneuf will be out, however the eternal optimist would point out that the damage is not believed to be structural. The pessimist would point out that Phaneuf had the All-Star break to heal up, yet appears to still be injured.
