27 years ago today, Canada lost it's most beloved athlete as Wayne Gretzky was traded to the Los Angeles Kings.
Fresh off a fourth Stanley Cup victory in five years, the Oilers shipped the best hockey player in the World to the City of angels. Edmonton still managed to win another Cup in 1990, but a lot of fans still wonder what could have been had Gretzky played there for the rest of his career.
The Great One never won the Cup again, but was instrumental in popularizing hockey in South California.
To this day, Gretzky's press conference is one of the most famous none hockey moment in NHL history.
