Any guy will tell you there is one place that they would like to avoid getting hit at all cost. Here's a referee working a preliminary round matchup between Germany and Latvia at the IIHF World Championship who suffered a fate universally understood. A German player took an awful shot that ended up well wide of the net. Unfortunately for the referee standing next to the net, he took t right in the nuts and his reaction is pretty much what you would expect. Poor guy.
