VIDEO: Bernier answers question about Nelson Mandela

Jonathan Bernier did not exactly come off as a Rhodes Scholar at a Raptors event on Friday. When asked about the South African anti-apartheid revolutionary, politician and philanthropist, he mistakenly took him for someone else. He praised Mandela for his accomplishments “on and off the ice”. Bernier later apologized for his comments: “I’m embarrassed,” said Bernier. “I didn’t mean to offend him, his legacy. I got flustered with the red carpet and I was nervous. I think everyone makes mistakes and that was me that night.” The video has resurfaced after being taken down by the Raptors and it is as cringe worthy as we all thought. For some the damage has already been done.
