Since Jacques Plante decided to put a mask as a goalie in an NHL game in 1959, the face of hockey changed forever. The goalie mask is there to protect a player from getting injured. But the design of the mask over the years has greatly evolved to reflect the personality of the goalies and serving other purposes, may be trying to intimidate opponents.
