The Ottawa Senators earned a desperately needed 4-3 overtime victory against the Washington Capitals on Saturday and defenseman Erik Karlsson played a big role in that win by logging 27:43 minutes of ice time and contributing two assists. He also reached a big milestone in the process. Karlsson became the quickest defenseman in 17 years to earn 300 points. Sergei Zubov was the quickest before Karlsson, notching No. 300 in only 354 games all the way back in 1998. He also became the second-fastest Swedish-born defenseman to reach the 300-point standard, requiring just five games more than Hall of Famer Borje Salming. I'm sure if you ask him he'll tell you it's just a number. With just four games left on their schedule they’re still three points behind in the battle for a postseason berth. Ottawa will play Toronto tonight. At just 24 years of age, Karlsson is not even in his prime yet. We may be witnessing a future Hall of Famer in the making. [iframe id=""]
