In a disturbing accusation, charges have been filed against former NHLer Jim Dowd for assaulting a minor. After spending 19 seasons in the NHL, Dowd is currently coaching high school hockey at the Manasquan-Point Pleasant Beach varsity team in New Jersey. The incident occurred last Wednesday during one of the teams games. Dowd is accused of kicking one of his 16 year old players in the back while he was sitting on the bench. He has been suspended from his coaching duties, pending an investigation by Wall Township NJ Police Department. Dowd played for 11 different NHL teams, and recorded 71 goals and 168 assists for 239 points in 728 games for his career.
