The hip check is certainly one of the more spectacular hits you will see in the game of hockey. It is more of a rarity in today's game than it was in the 1990's for example. That makes them all the more special when they do occur. Take for example this beauty. Minnesota Wild defenceman Keith Ballard attempts to defend against a much bigger man in Anaheim Ducks sniper Corey Perry. He lays an absolutely perfect hip check on Perry and sends him hard face first to the ice. Unfortunately for Perry he gets up favouring his knee, but the check is as clean as it gets. Check this out:
