Kiriil Kabanov was drafted in 2010, 65th overall by the New York Islanders. After 2 poor seasons with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers in the AHL that ended with the Stockton Thunder of the CHL, Kabanov played 12 games with MODO in Sweden on a loan. This year, he stayed in the SHL, signing with the Skelleftea AIK. He had 22 points in 26 games before getting crushed by Kent McDonell during a matchup of the Champions Hockey League earlier this week. Linkoping's forward absolutely drilled Kabanov with a huge hit in the CHL quarterfinal. Kent McDonell, who played some games with Columbus in the mid-2000's, caught Kabanov behind the net as he was looking to pass the puck to one of his teammates.
