As most of you know by now the Flyers lost in a shootout to the Washington Capitals last night in spite of leading after two periods. However most Flyers fans might be surprised to hear that the defeat was an overwhelmingly positive one. First a foremost in the Flyers controlled the faceoff circle winning 59% of the draws, captain Claude Giroux led the team winning 11 of his 18. Defensively the team looked much better last night than they had all of last season. They allowed only 20 shots on goal through 3 periods plus overtime, most of them from the perimeter. The Flyers fourth line was once again a factor, Jason Aketson had a goal and it appears the Flyers will be able to count on more production from their fourth line this season.
