On occasion you will see a finish that is so fantastic, it leaves everyone in the building in a state of shock. That is what happened in last night's game between the Calgary Flames and L.A Kings, when Flames defenceman Dennis Wideman iced the game. Only he was the only one who knew it! After about four minutes of 3 on 3 overtime, the Flames were putting extreme pressure on the Kings. With less than a minute left in overtime, Wideman got the puck down close to the Los Angeles goal line and, with Kings netminder Jonathan Quick down and sliding across the crease, the Flames defenseman buried the puck in the top shelf. You can hear Wideman after the puck goes in, with his arms raised, yelling, “Yeah!” Only play went on. Everyone, including Sportsnet’s commentary team of Rick Ball and Kelly Hrudey, thought the puck had gone off the crossbar. Luckily enough for the Flames, the Kings iced the puck and they got a stoppage in play. Officials went back to look at the shot again, and low and behold it had hit the camera behind the net and not the bar for a good hockey goal. Wideman's reaction on the bench after the announcement is also pretty awesome. Here it is!
