It is no secret that hockey players are a fiery bunch and are known to lose their tempers from time to time. Most recently Steven Stamkos was assessed a 10 minute misconduct in overtime against the Bruins for tossing his stick in frustration. On many occasions players have used their stick inappropriately to express that exact frustration, and this can be a very dangerous knee-jerk reaction. Whether it be because of a call not going their way, or a bad goal being scored, stick-throwing exists in hockey and although it's a rare occurrence, it's entertaining when it happens. Here are a few of the most infamous incidents of players throwing their sticks. Ilya Bryzgalov flings his stick behind him. Edmonton’s Marty Reasoner scores after Bryzgalov is left scrambling to stop the onslaught. He flings his stick with authority, not knowing there was a referee in his blind spot. Keep in mind, this is the same guy that said:“That’s hockey, you know. It’s only game. Why you have to be mad?” Mats Sundin tosses his stick into the stands at the ACC With Sundin in perfect position for a one timer, his stick snaps in two on the follow through. Sundin grabbed the butt end and tossed it into the stands in Toronto. Sundin was handed down a one game suspension. The incident would live in infamy as personal rival, Ottawa Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson would imitate Sundin to mock him for years to come. Lithuanian player Danielius Nomanovas with a vicious throw. This is one of the more violent ones in history as it was clearly intention on the part of the player. After an international contest between Great Britain and Lithuania, Danielius Nomanovas was very angry about his team taking the 3-2 loss. He viciously launches his stick at the referee after taking a step back to size him up. The ref was not hurt. Tuukka Rask goes ballistic in the AHL. By far one of the more entertaining tantrums you have ever seen. Rask is a fierce competitor and he just loses it after a shootout loss to the Charlotte Checkers while he was a member of the Providence Bruins. You have to see to believe. Tom Webster's javelin throw. Despite being a successful NHLer for many years, it's this moment of Webster behind the bench that lives in infamy. After referee Kerry Fraser makes a call that Webster is clearly does not agree with, Webster makes his feelings abundantly clear by grabbing a stick from the bench and hurling it, javelin style, at Fraser.
