Things got out of hand in a hurry during the first period of the Minnesota Wild and Utah Mammoth matchup on Tuesday night, as two separate fights broke out within a span of just 90 seconds.

The hostilities escalated quickly, with Mammoth’s own Spicy Tuna, Liam O’Brien, getting the crowd going by dropping the gloves with enforcer Michael McCarron. This was a big boy fight as some heavy blows were traded. O’Brien looked good, landing haymakers on a guy that’s five inches taller than him.

Mikhail Sergachev and Matt Boldy were next to drop in a surprising matchup. I imagined that Wild’s bench holding its breath, wishing Boldy would use his hands for scoring instead of fighting.

Still, the back-to-back scraps turned the opening frame into an absolute war zone and had fans buzzing online almost immediately.

There's no denying the confrontations set the tone for a fiery contest between the two teams. When tensions boil over that quickly in a game, it usually signals that there's more bad blood to come as the season rolls on. Keep an eye on the next time these two squads meet on the schedule!
