It's starting to become far more than just a bad stretch, the Wild officially have a big problem between the pipes. As of this writing Darcy Kuemper and Niklas Backstrom have combined for a brutal .902 save percentage this season. In fact no other team in the NHL has a worse save percentage when playing  5 on 5 hockey, NONE. That list includes brutal teams like the Edmonton Oilers, Arizona Coyotes and the Carolina Hurricanes. After this past Saturday's game, a game in which the Wild scored 5 goals and lost, the Wild's Captain expressed his feelings to the media and while his comments weren't likely meant to do so, he threw his goalies under the bus:
“With five goals, we should be able to win a hockey game.”
There's no denying the fact that Koivu is right, 5 goals should be more than enough to get you a win, however the Wild only made it 1:45 in to overtime before Mattias Ekholm of Nashville put an end to their night. The Wild find themselves in a really tough position, Josh Harding hasn't looked healthy enough to play since breaking his foot just before the regular season. He was recently hospitalized for a severe dehydration episode believed to be related to his battle with multiple sclerosis. No one know when Harding will be healthy enough to play, or frankly what kind of condition he will be in at that point. For now it looks like Wild fans will need to look to Backstrom and Kuemper to turn it around if they have any hope of competing this season.
