CSN Philly broadcaster Chris Therien dubbed it "the worst call he's seen all year", so you know it has to be bad. Wayne Simmonds got a 2 minute elbowing minor in the second period of last night's contest against the Edmonton Oilers on the most phantom penalty call you will ever see. You see Simmonds turn away from the Oilers Martin Marincin, and Marincin skates directly into Simmonds's elbow. This wasn't a malicious play from Simmonds. There was no intent to injure and he didn't even extend his elbow to make contact with Marincin. From the NHL's rulebook. 5.1 Elbowing - Elbowing shall mean the use of an extended elbow in a manner that may or may not cause injury. The Flyers trounced the Oilers 4-1 despite this horrendous call.
