On Sunday, news broke that the Maple Leafs were actively trying to add one of Auston Matthews' former teammates to their roster, but the Maple Leafs will likely need to make room on their roster before they can make any additions.

National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman has revealed that the Maple Leafs are contemplating 3 possible trades, with a pair of long time Maple Leafs included on the list. Friedman discussed the subject on the most recent episode of his podcast, his final podcast of the season.

"There's a lot of different options the Leafs have, but I think they are gonna try and move some guys out," admitted Friedman on the 32 Thoughts podcast.

Friedman would expand on those thoughts and named two players in particular that he believes are likely candidates for a trade moving forward.

"I assume one of them is Kampf," revealed Friedman. "Another one could potentially be [Calle] Jarnkrok."

Friedman also hinted at the possibility that Nicholas Robertson could be on that list as well, but opted to leave his name out of it given some unique circumstances.

"We're gonna leave Nick Robertson out of the rumors, he's getting married this weekend," said Friedman.

Last but not least Friedman hinted at a third possibility for a trade, one that would involve a Maple Leafs defenseman. Friedman didn't provide any names here, but merely speculated that the Leafs were looking to make a move of this nature based on what he has been hearing around the league.

"One of the other things I wonder about with the Leafs is, could they try to move a defenseman for a forward?" asked Friedman. "That was rumored with [JJ] Peterka, when they were weighing into that situation, obviously that didn't happen. But it's something I think they've looked at."

The Maple Leafs have a lot of runway this summer before the start of next season which doesn't lead to any great sense of urgency when it comes to making any of these moves. If they do indeed have a player waiting to sign with them however, there may be pressure on general manager Brad Treliving to pull the trigger on a trade sooner rather than later.
