Alex Galchenyuk has plead guilty after a shocking incident that took place last month.
Former National Hockey League player Alex Galchenyuk was involved in a shocking incident last month, one in which he was accused of hurling racial slurs, threatening a police officer, and threatening a police officer's family. You can read all the details in my original report here.
We now have an update on this outlandish story and although Galchenyuk won't be avoiding trouble altogether, it sounds like all things considered he will be getting off relatively easy.
The update comes courtesy of The Athletic's Katie Strang, who on Monday reported that Alex Galchenyuk has agreed to plead guilty to one misdemeanor charge of threatening, with five of the other charges against the former NHL forward being dismissed.
As mentioned Galchenyuk has landed himself in some hot water here and has been sentenced to 30 days of jail time, but again it sounds like he will be avoiding most of it. He will have 1 day count as time served, and an additional 27 days suspended upon completion of an alcohol recovery program and 12 months without consuming or possessing alcohol.
Galchenyuk has already issued a publicly apology for his actions and announced in July that he would be entering the NHL and NHLPA's player assistance program.
I sincerely hope he gets the help he needs.
