After terminating his contract on Sunday, Alex Texier has already found a new team.
It was rumored to be a done deal and as it turns out, the rumors were true this time around.
On Sunday, the Montreal Canadiens officially announced that they had signed free agent forward Alex Texier, just moments after Texier officially became a free agent. Texier and the Canadiens have agreed to a 1 year deal that will carry an average annual value and salary cap hit of $1 million for the remainder of the season.
Texier was waived by his former team, the St. Louis Blues, on Saturday for the purpose of contract termination and after he cleared waivers on Sunday the move was made official and Texier became a free agent. There were reports that as many as 9 teams in the National Hockey League were interested in acquiring Texier, but the Canadiens have emerged as the winners in this one.
Texier, a former 2nd round (45th overall) pick of the Columbus Blue Jackets at the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, has 240 games of NHL experience under his belt and has 40 goals and 51 assists for 91 career points in the NHL. At just 26 years of age he will fit in with the Canadiens young core and there is an added bonus here for both sides as well.
As a native of Saint-Martin-d'Heres, France, Texier is a French speaker which will prove to be an incredibly valuable asset for him in a market like Montreal. It may also be the case that being in a French speaking province will make his day to day life that much easier, which may have been a major contributing factor when it came down to his decision to choose the Canadiens.
Now it will be on Texier to deliver after leaving his former team and signing his new deal.
