'At least 3 options' for the Oilers on the trade market.

Oilers should be going for it this year.

It would appear as though the Edmonton Oilers will be going all in this season as they look to capitalize on the incredible form currently being displayed by Oilers forwards Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid. Both men have been nothing short of outstanding this season and both are frontrunners for the Hart Memorial Trophy as the National Hockey League's most valuable player at this stage of the season, and it sounds like even more help may soon be on the way.

On Saturday night during the NHL broadcast of the game between the Oilers and Carolina Hurricanes, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman revealed his belief that this is the season Oilers general manager Ken Holland will be pushing all of his chips into the middle of the table.

"As I see it, you have to go for it if you're Edmonton," said Friedman on Saturday. "You have to say to your two star players, who are Hart Trophy caliber players, that 'we are going to give you an opportunity the way you've started this year'."

The question of course becomes what the Oilers will do in the hopes of helping their team, and by extension Draisaitl and McDavid, reach the next level. According to Friedman the Oilers have 3 ways they can improve, although admittedly he isn't sure that the team will be able to address all 3 of those needs in season.

"I think the question here is when do they do it? And I see at least 3 options. I see goal, I see 3rd line center and I see left defense," said Friedman. "Now I don't know if you can do all of those things but I'm very curious to see what Ken Holland says 'I'm going to attack this and I'm going to attack it first and make it a priority.'"

Ken Holland will have to get creative if he wants to make any adjustments to his current roster, with the Oilers having relatively little cap space to work with. Given that Friedman sees 3 needs for the Oilers it could mean that Holland will have to find creative ways to unload money, say in a deal with a team like the Arizona Coyotes who have made a habit of facilitating these types of moves in recent history, to give his teams the tools they need to compete for the Stanley Cup.
