Avalanche sign Georgiev to multi-year contract.
The Avalanche have their new goalie.
The Colorado Avalanche have their goaltending tandem locked and loaded.
According to a report from National Hockey League insider Elliotte Friedman, the Avalanche have signed goaltender Alexandar Georgiev to a 3 year contract that will carry an average annual value and salary cap hit of $3.4 million per season.
The move comes off the heels of a trade that saw the Avalanche give up several draft picks to the New York Rangers in order to acquire Georgiev's rights as a restricted free agent. The Rangers it seemed were unlikely to extend Georgiev his qualifying offer, and as a result many feel that the pair of third round picks and the fifth round pick the Avalanche gave up to make the deal may have been too high.
That being said, now that the Avalanche have Georgiev signed long term and to a reasonable number it will certainly make that deal look much more palatable. It's also worth noting that, with the current shortage of available quality goaltenders acting early may have been a wise move on the part of general manager Joe Sakic.
