It happened AGAIN!
It’s no secret that odds are that Montreal Canadiens defenseman Ben Chiarot will get traded ahead of the deadline on March, 21st. But we bet the blue liner cannot wait to get the REAL notification that he is on the move instead of all that talk about fake accounts and reports.
Last week, during the intermission of the game between the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Pittsburgh Penguins, Paul Kennedy and his co-host Dave Andreychuk of Ballys Sports announced that Chiarot had been traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs. The fake deal reported that Montreal was sending Chiarot and a third-round pick to Toronto in return for prospects Topi Niemela and Matthew Knies and this years first round pick. But that deal never took place. But the account’s handle was the MapleLeefs…
And heck, it happened again! This time, during the broadcast of the game between the New York Islanders and Colorado Avalanche on Monday, in which not only the hosts thought Chiarot had been moved, but that he had been traded along with fellow defenseman Jeff Petry to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Again, all thanks to a fake account.
The hosts later apologized for making the mistake and made sure fans knew that both Chiarot and Petry were still members of the Canadiens, and had not been traded to Toronto.
Don’t get fooled, folks! Trades will happen, but it needs to be the real deal!
