The Toronto Maple Leafs have been dealing with a significant number of injuries in the early days of their training camp. On Saturday I reported that 3 additional players were headed to the sidelines, two with injuries and one due to illness, but thankfully Sunday comes with some positive news instead.

On Saturday, Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube had suggested that forward Max Domi, who is currently dealing with a lower body injury, would be back on the ice for practice on Sunday. As it turns out Berube was correct with Domi hitting the ice with his fellow Leafs' teammates earlier today.

This is big news for the Maple Leafs as many expect that Domi will be slotted alongside forwards Auston Matthews and Matthew Knies on the team's top line. Head coach Craig Berube has admitted that there is a possibility that he will slot recently acquired forward Matias Maccelli in that slot instead of Domi, but the return of Domi is an important one nonetheless.

Domi will be expected to take on a much bigger role if he does indeed slot in on the top line, and will likely need to increase his production from the 8 goals and 25 assists he produced over 74 games for the Leafs last season.

Although Domi is back out on the ice today it does not sound like he will play in the preseason opener for the Maple Leafs, which is set for later today against the Ottawa Senators.

Should Domi continue to be limited by the injury it will make it all the more likely that Maccelli could legitimately compete for that vacant spot on the team's top line.

Stay tuned for more Maple Leafs coverage from both the preseason and training camp in the coming days.
