Bill Daly responds to controversy surrounding Coyotes and their players.
The NHL's Deputy Commissioner responds to serious allegations made against the Coyotes over the weekend.
Some serious allegations were made against the Coyotes over the weekend and now the NHL has sent out deputy commissioner Bill Daly in an attempt to put out the fire.
An embarrassing report over the weekend indicated that multiple players who played for the Coyotes during the 2022-23 National Hockey League regular season had filed complaints with the National Hockey League Players Association as it pertains to the quality of their accommodations and sub-standard travel issues.
Absolutely no one is surprised by this news given the current state of the Coyotes organization, but on Monday Daly did his best to downplay the embarrassing report.
"There is no factual basis for the blurb," said Daly on Monday. "The only issue ever brought to my attention related to player concerns related to construction delays in connection with the completion of Mullett Arena. No other player complaints were ever brought to my attention; no grievances were filed; and no complaints were adjudicated, either formally or informally."
I would be remiss if I didn't point out that the report indicated that multiple Coyotes players had filed complaints with the NHLPA and not with the NHL itself, so this may be a case of Daly choosing his words very carefully. While you would expect that the NHLPA would have brought this matter up to the league itself, it may simply be the case that the NHLPA has not yet had the opportunity to do so.
Update: The source of the original report, Rangers insider Larry Brooks, has now responded to Daly's comments and has pointed out that the NHL's deputy commissioner is denying something that he never reported.
