Blackhawks sign 7th overall pick Kevin Korchinski

Can the 18 year old actually crack the roster next season?

The Chicago Blackhawks have signed 7th overall defenseman Kevin Korchinski to a three year, entry level contract.

Check it out:

The Blackhawks moved up in the draft and shipped out leading scorer Alex DeBrincat in an effort to get Korchinski. The 18 year old Saskatoon, SK native put up four goals and 65 points in 67 games with the WHL's Seattle Thunderbirds this past season and established himself as one of the best defensemen available in the draft.

Frankly, I don't expect he'll skate with the Blackhawks this upcoming season but rather he'll be a beast in the WHL. He's nearly a year younger than most of his fellow 2022 draftees, having just turned 18 in June. I suspect he'll play in the WHL and then he'll represent Canada at the 2023 World Junior Championships. He was a late cut by Canada for this summer's edition of the 2022 World Juniors.
